It was Sunday afternoon, an hour after Nanette and her mother had gotten back from church. Nanette didn't really get much out of church, but she did like some of the beliefs- that we are all forgiven, that if you pray, something might happen. Most of the time, however, Nanette was staring into space, not really paying attention. She had almost always done that, for as long as she could remember.
After Nanette and her mother returned home, Nanette changed out of her church clothes (which has just a simple blouse and her 'nice' skirt, because her mother asked her to dress up for mass), and put on a pair of light blue jeans and a blue-gray tee shirt. She wore no jewelry, except for simple, small silver hoop earrings. Her shoes were just an old pair of tennis shoes, and she wore no jacket. Typical, usual Nanette.
So, Nanette packed up her school bag, her iPod, and left the house to go down to the fountain, and try to study there. It was relaxing to be around the bubbling and splashing of the fountains, to hear the shouts and laughs of the crowd that usually gathered there about midday. Nanette was extremely grateful that her job gave her Sundays off, because that was the only time she had to do her homework. Between school, waitressing, exercising, and field hockey, Nanette had little time for homework and a social life.
Sitting down on the stone ledge of the foutain, Nanette dropped her black messenger bag at her feet, and took out a book and her iPod. Turning her music up loud, Nanette began to study history, a subject which she found completely pointless unless you planned on being a game show contestant, or a teacher- neither of which interested Nanette. But it didn't really matter if she liked it or not. She just had to get a good grade, get accepted to college, and get the hell out of here.

as the soft, shiny surface of the penny left ninon's hands, she closed her eyes making a wish like the elder cani had told her to...with warning of course. wishes were something not to take for grant, something that only came true if you really needed them to. so, to be safe, ninon left her wishes simple and short. reopening her eyes, she watched as the penny floated to the bottom until it hit with a little cling short of noise. standing there for a moment longer, she turned around in a swift movement and surveyed her surroundings. it was easy to tell which people were hunters since they had a certain atmosphere about them. canis and felis, in a way, were the same...each a type of animal, and well humans...humans were just lost in the confusion. either way, ninon guessed they all tied into the bigger picture, the overall plot that god had in store.
taking a few steps forwards, ninon began to once again survey her surroundings. wearing a pair of black skinny jeans, a yellow shirt with designs on it, her black french hat, a pair of black flats and her favourite pair of designer glasses, ninon looked like nothing but a normal human being. she had to admit she had done a pretty good job of keeping her whole cani side a secret, besides telling the closer cani friends of hers. although, thinking about it a second time, the feli people knew too just like she knew about them. it was like a circle of life if you looked at it. the cani people depended on the feli people to not tell the hunters who they were and vice versa. smiling with ease, ninon walked forwards with a kick in her step.
narrowing down her search to one individual, ninon walked forwards. she remembered the girl from somewhere, she had spoken to her a couple times. as she neared, the alarm of a feli being near went off, but by then it was to late. ninon stood infront of the girl in a awkward position. taking a seat at the fountain a couple feet away from the girl, she only hoped she hadn't made a scene. looking at the girl from the corner of her eye, she glanced down at her paper. 'oooo, history, fun.' she thought with a short laugh. turning her attention back to her surroundings, she sat there for a moment longer. perhaps today wouldn't be so boring as she had guessed...who knows.

The stench of cani, and the feeling of being watched sent a shiver down Nanette's spine. She searched the fountains, looking for the cani. A few feet away from her, the girl was sitting. Nanette observed her outfit, and studied her face. At least she's not foaming at the mouth, Nanette though.
"What are you staring at, dog?" Nanette said, her voice low, not easy for humans to hear, but she was pretty sure that another feli, cani, or hunter could hear it. She didn't want to make a scene and draw unwanted hunter attention, she just wanted to annoy the cani, and make her go away. From the start, Nanette had been bred to hate cani, to fear hunters, and feel superior to humans. She was the perfect, stereotypical feli, believing what other feli told her, and not trusting anyone else. After all, she couldn't exactly see her father socializing with cani, or even making friends. It was better that everyone in the cani community knew that Nanette hated them all, and to stay away. In fact, Nanette was pretty sure half of Waylon City knew that she hated nearly everyone in town. The only thing that kept Nanette in Waylon City was the fact that her mother needed her, and hope that her father might one day come back. He had left the family when Nanette was only a wee toddler, leaving two months before her fourth birthday. Nanette remembered waking up, and finding out her father had left- it was officially the worst day of her life.
Some people said that she was angry that her father left her and her mother, and was taking it out on the world. Maybe that was true, maybe it wasn't. All Nanette cared about was the few people in the world that she actually did like- the rest could all die, and Nanette wouldn't care. She was often openly rude and cruel to others, even to complete strangers. It was all just a part of who she was- she was born to be a fighter. Someone has told her once that it was a good thing, that she would be able to defend herself and her race so much better if she had that anger, that energy, that passion. Nanette didn't see it like that: she just thought of it as her personality, the way she was made. It wasn't her fault people were so stupid, ugly, or worthy of her hatred. They just deserved it, and in most cases, it was their fault. Especially when it came to cani....

ninon laughed ever so slightly with a simple roll of her eyes. turning her stormy blue eyes to the girl, she formed a wicked smile. "thats wolf to you, cat." she replied with cold, harsh words. turning her attention to a couple people who had stopped in the distance and watched them from afar, ninon guessed they had heard the two speaking to each other. they were no doubt some other canis or felis, or worse, hunters. keeping the smile plastered on her face, she turned to the feli again and laughed silently to herself. as her ears moved slightly were she sat, he eyes swiftly moved to a couple of people by a tree. picking up what they were saying, her smiled soon disappeared as she became interested in their subject.
one person confronted a feli and it seemed as if a fight could break out between the two. as ninon scanned the area around them, she could see a couple hunters attention got caught and shook her head slightly. it would be a sad day for the canis and felis if those to kept it up. sighing, she turned to the feli beside her and watched her for a second, every so often her eyes moved back to the two at the tree. fiddling her fingers back and forth, she wondered if her and the feli would turn into the two by the tree. it would be interesting, although not safe in such a public place. shivering slightly, her thoughts moved back to her past...
ninon knew about the dangers of being a cani or a feli, but normally if you didn't bother the hunters, they really didn't bother you all that much. when she found out her father had gotten killed by one, ninon was pushed into a reality check. life wasn't about enjoying it anymore, it was about surviving. then, when her mother died the same way, ninon was determined to live for them. so when it came to staying alive in this place, ninon put it first on her list. taking in a deep breath, she put the tip of her fingers in the fountain she was sitting on and focused her gaze on a shiny penny that lied at the bottom as if waiting for something.

"Cat? Honey, that doesn't offend me," Nanette said, smirking, not even seeing the two by the tree. "Now, if I called you dog, I could see why you would be offended...well, wolf, if you want. But it's all the same- dogs, foxes, coyotes, wolves- they all suck-"Nanette pondered her next words carefully - "You all suck rabbit ovaries!" she squealed, recalling the line from middle school, when she and her friends would try to come up with the most creative, disgusting, dirty insults. It really made no sense, but it was still fun to say. Even though Nanette was eighteen, she often acted like she was eight. To Nanette, anything could be funny if it was dirty, insulting, or just plain stupid. She didn't really care about attracting attention- she was often oblivious when it came to hunters and others looking to attack her- she never really thought about it until it actually happened.
Nanette tried to hide her grin- really, it was a stupid line, but something about it was so funny...it was almost like she was a little kid again. Then again, nothing would be different- Nanette had always been bitter and rude, even since she started school. She often thought about changing her actions, but, hey, why change now? Maybe she would when she went away to college, maybe when she got a (real) job, maybe when she got the hell out of here. There were a lot of maybes out there, and Nanette always wondered what would happen. She could remember being a kid, and thinking that maybe she would be cool when she was in high school or got a car, maybe she would be rich when she got a job. But she was none of those- she was a poor, mean, nobody- however, that never really seemed to bother Nanette that much, especially now. With only about nine weeks left of high school, would any of it really matter?
Nanette shivered, thinking about it. Nine weeks. Forty-five school days. Less, probably, with all the days she took off sick, ditched class, or school was canceled. It would all be over soon, and Nanette would have the choice to never come back to Waylon City. She would visit occasionally to check on her mom, but Nanette could see herself; being famous, wealthy, smart, friendly, and in love. It would all work out someday. Someday, Nanette thought. But why think about someday when we're living in today?
Turning her attention back to the cani, Nanette turned her head slightly, wondering. Was there really so much different between the feli and the cani? Yes, she thought. Feli are about ten times better.
OOC; That rabbit line...some fifth grader who goes to my school says that all the time. It's one of those creepy/funny/weird things.

ninon laughed at the cat's comeback. was that seriously all she had? come on, ninon had heard things ten times worse then that. rolling her eyes, she rested in the spot she had found comfortable and hummed a little tune. after moments had passed, ninon looked at the feli,"names ninon. you have spunk, i'll give you that." she replied with a grin. sure ninon hated the occasional feli, but she didn't hate all. it took a lot to really get ninon to hate someone. sure, she disliked, but hate was restricted to a few people. knowing the feli would probably careless about what she said, as least she had said something nice today, so bonus point for her. returning back to humming, she continued to watch the two off by the tree...
it appeared as if the two had come to some sort of compromise, for the two were now giving eachother a nice smile. a little confused, ninon watched for a moment longer. as time passed, she finally got it and smiled. it would appear as if not all cani and feli people had to be enemies showing by the way the two seemed to get along now. ninon had to admit, it was a slight surprise to her. normally she seen canis and felis hissing at each other with mean words and not one second thought. as she examined the two by the tree for a longer period of time, she was a little amazed to see that they indeed had created friends between each other. sure it was a little awkward and probably would get some commotion from others, but they had beat the odds.
smiling, she figured to leave the two to their own business and let her eyes wonder off to a bee flying around. as it landed on a flower, she watched the little stinger as the bee did its business. she had seen many people who had gotten stung before, and knew by their face expressions that it hurt, but she couldn't help but wonder what it felt like. as the bee moved from one flower to another, it seemed to move with little caution, as if nothing bad could happen to it. ninon had to confess, she would love to have the sort of carefree feeling every once in a while, but knew it was unlikely because of the damn hunter. damn hunters...
